Summary

This MQ Administrator role supports a large enterprise middleware infrastructure, serving as the primary SME for IBM MQ. The position is responsible for managing asynchronous integrations between internal systems and external partners, while also providing administrative support for IBM DataPower and overseeing infrastructure performance monitoring.

Note: This is not a Developer role. Candidates must have a middleware/infrastructure background with deep IBM MQ experience.

Required Technologies

Expert: IBM MQ Administration, IBM DataPower, Linux (log review, shell scripting)

Preferred: MuleSoft, API Gateway/Management (Apigee, Kong), Kafka or other messaging tools

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as MQ Admin SME across IBX infrastructure
• Create/configure Queue Managers, Queues, Channels, Listeners
• Implement clustering, multi-instance QMs, high availability
• Manage MQ security (SSL/TLS, access control)
• Troubleshoot message flows, DLQs, channel issues
• Apply patches/upgrades with minimal downtime
• Integrate MQ with monitoring tools like Dynatrace
• Perform backup/recovery and plan for DR
• Support IBM DataPower appliances
• Collaborate with 6-person middleware team (3 onshore, 3 offshore)
• Join triage calls to resolve integration issues (internal + partner-facing)
• Participate in low-volume on-call rotation (1 week every 6–7 weeks)

Qualifications

• 8+ years of IBM MQ administration
• Strong Linux skills (bash/powershell, scripting, logs)
• Experience with clustered MQ environments
• MQSC scripting command knowledge
• Strong communication; comfortable leading support calls
• API/Mulesoft experience a plus but not required

Location: Philadelphia, PA (on-site 2x/week)
