Position Overview

Hays Electrical Services is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to oversee and manage the company’s multi-state weekly payroll operations. This role is vital to ensuring accurate and timely payment for field and office employees, compliance with federal and state regulations, and coordination with accounting, HR, and project teams. The ideal candidate has a strong background in construction payroll, union and non-union reporting, and payroll systems administration.

Key Responsibilities

 
  • Oversee full-cycle payroll processing for weekly payroll across multiple states, including union and non-union employees.
  • Ensure compliance with prevailing wage laws, certified payroll reporting, and job costing accuracy.
  • Maintain and update payroll systems and records, including tax setup, benefit deductions, garnishments, and direct deposits.
  • Collaborate with HR to ensure proper onboarding of employees and integration of employee data into the payroll system.
  • Manage payroll tax filings and year-end processes, including W-2s, 1099s, and union reporting.
  • Serve as primary liaison for payroll-related audits, including internal audits and third-party labor compliance reviews.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies and respond to employee inquiries in a timely, professional manner.
  • Generate payroll reports and dashboards for leadership, project management, and accounting teams.
  • Continuously improve payroll processes for accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Stay up to date on federal, state, and local payroll regulations and labor laws.
Qualifications

 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience, preferably in construction or electrical contracting.
  • Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll compliance, prevailing wage, and certified payroll.
  • Experience with payroll systems (e.g., Viewpoint Vista, Paycom, ADP, Sage, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with union payroll and fringe benefit reporting is a plus.
  • High level of integrity, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact across departments and with field personnel.
  • CPP certification a plus, but not required.
