EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required: \n
    \n
  • Education
    Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management and/or closely related field. or
    Associate's Degree in Health Information Management and/or closely related field.
  • \n
\n

  • Experience
    3 years (3-5) years acute hospital-based coding experience and documented progression of leadership capacity based on past experience. and
    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Working in EPIC and 3M Encoder 
  • \n
\n

  • Licenses and Certifications
    (RHIA) REGD HEALTH INFO ADMINIST or
    (RHIT) REGD HEALTH INFO TECHNOLO or
    (CCS) CERT CODING SPECIALIST or
    (COC) Certified Outpatient Coding or
    (CPC) CERT PROFESSIONAL CODER or
    CPC-H or
    (CIRCC) Cert Inter Rad Cardio Coder

JOB DUTIES

    \n
  • Must have and maintain an expert level of knowledge and application of coding guidelines, rules, and conventions.
  • \n
  • Monitors daily workflow to assure organizational, departmental, and team goals are met. Prepare weekly timely filing reports, is responsible for multiple work queues including but not limited to claim edits, mortality, coding questions, customer service/PFS, denials, combined/uncombined.
  • \n
  • Performs coding audits and reports results to the coding manager. Develops coding education materials in collaboration with the coding manager and delivers education to coding and/or CDI teams including but not limited to I-10 updates, CPT, HCPCS, audit and/or edit trends, compliant queries, and system updates.
  • \n
  • Works in collaboration with coding leadership and other departments to provide coding support through data analysis and system functionality.
  • \n
  • Functions as a subject matter expert for the coding team and other personnel to answer questions, assist with problem resolution, and special projects assigned by department leadership.
  • \n
  • Provides back up coverage for the coding team as needed.
  • \n
  • Provides new coder onboarding education/ training in collaboration with the coding manager.
  • \n
  • Assist coding manager with the interview process for potential coder candidates as requested.
  • \n
  • Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing, or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
